Lemon Princess Spirea. 2', zone 4, DR, Small yellow leaves on very compact habit, pink flowers, color holds up well in summer.

Little Princess Spirea. 3', zone 4, DR, Small green leaves, pale pink flowers, compact habit.

Spiraea japonica 'Magic Carpet'

Magic Carpet Dwarf Spirea. 2', zone 3, DR, Deep pink flowers, red new foliage, bronze leaves, great fall foliage.

Spiraea japonica 'Neon Flash'

Neon Flash Spirea. 3', zone 4, DR, Red flowers, purple new foliage, reblooms well, introduced by Barry Yinger and Brookside Gardens.

Shirobana Japanese Spirea. 3', zone 4, DR, Deep rose, pink and white flowers on same plant.

Spiraea japonica 'Gold Mound'

Gold Mound Spirea. 3', zone 4, DR, Yellow-gold foliage throughout summer, pink delicate flowers, orange-red fall color.

Spiraea nipponica 'Snowmound'

Snowmound Nippon Spirea. 4', zone 4, DR, Covered with beautiful and delicate white flowers May to June, foliage is a clean dark bluish-green, a carefree classic shrub.

Spiraea thunbergii 'Ogon'

Ogon Spirea. 3', zone 4, White flowers in spring, small bright yellow leaves turn to bronze in the fall, odd but showy. A P.H.S. Gold Metal Plant.

Spiraea x bumalda Golden Sunrise ('Monhud')

3', zone 4, DR, Bright yellow new folaige changing to chartreuse-yellow by mid-summer. Pink flowers in the summer time give good contrast to foliage. A sport of S. x 'Gold Flame' found at Wight Nurseries in Cairo, Georgia. Best color in fall sun.

Korean Stewartia. 25', zone 5, SH, White flowers, exfoliating bark, burgundy-red fall foliage. A P.H.S. Gold Metal Plant.

Stewartia pseudocamelia

Japanese Stewartia. 30', zone 5, SH, White flowers, exfoliating bark, burgundy fall foliage.

Styrax japonicus 'Emerald Pagoda' ('Sohuksan')

Emerald Pagoda Japanese Snowbell. 25', zone 5, SH, A wonderful small tree found in Korea by Dr. J.C. Raulston. Unlike S. japonicus, the leaves are bigger, glossier, and more leathery. The growth is more rapid and tree like, and the white pendant bell flowers are larger and showier. Also more tolerant to hot and cold weather.

Palibin Meyer Dwarf Lilac. 4', zone 3, Lavender flowers, clean foliage. A P.H.S. Gold Metal Plant.

Syringa patula 'Miss Kim'

Miss Kim Dwarf Manchurian Lilac. 5', zone 3, Ice blue flowers, clean foliage.

Syringa x hyacinthiflora 'Pocohontas'

Pocahontas Early Flowering Lilac. 10', zone 2, Reddish-purple flowers, fragrant, like the French hybrid lilacs, but without the foliage problems.

Syringa x Tinkerbelle ('Bailbelle')

Tinkerbelle Compact Lilac. 5', zone 3, Wine colored buds open to clear pink flowers, introduced by Bailey Nurseries of Minnesota, clean foliage.

Taxodium ascendens 'Nutans'

Nutans Pondcypress. 60', zone 4, N, Short, horizontal branching with pendulous, delicate fern-like foliage. Upright and narrow habit, very unusual and showy in the landscape. A deciduous conifer with beautiful orange-buff fall color.

Debonair Pondcypress. 60', zone 4, N, Delicate ferny foliage, deciduous conifer, introduced by Earl Cully and the Morris Arboretum.

Taxodium distichum 'Cascade Falls'

Cascade Falls Weeping Baldcypress. 20', zone 4, N, Extremely rare weeping deciduous conifer, new introduction from New Zealand.

Taxodium distichum 'Peve Minaret'

Peve Minaret Baldcypress. 20', zone 4, N, A tight, compact form of our native Baldcypress, with interesting dense, fern-like foliage which turns orange-brown in the fall. A rare deciduous conifer, perfect for small gardens.

Taxus baccata 'Repandens'

Spreading English Yew. 3' (8' spread), zone 5, SH, The most cold tolerant of the baccata yews, and a wonderful evergreen for shade. An alternate in deer country would be Cephalotaxus prostrata.

Taxus x media 'Densiformis'

Densiformis Anglojap Yew. 4', (6' wide), zone 4, The classic short-needled evergreen for short hedges, but a waste of time in deer country. An alterative choice would be Cephalotaxus harringtonia var. drupacea.

Taxus x media 'Hicksii'

Hicks Anglojap Yew. 20', zone 4, Beautiful columnar short-needled evergreen for tall, formal hedges, but not worth the effort if not protected from deer.An alternative choice is 'Fastiaga'. Found on Long Island by the late Henry Hicks.

Vaccinium corymbosum

Highbush Blueberry. 8', zone 3, N, SH, White flowers, powder blue delicious fruit, good scarlet fall foliage, tolerates wet sites.

Koreanspice Viburnum. 6', zone 4, DR, Fragrant white flowers, burgundy fall color, deciduous.

Viburnum dentatum Blue Muffin ('Christom')

Blue Muffin Arrowwood Viburnum. 6', zone 3, N, SH, White flowers, blue fruit, deciduous.

Viburnum dilatatum 'Erie'

Erie Linden Viburnum. 6', zone 5, Creamy white fuzzy flowers in May followed by vivid red fruit in September, yellow-orange fall color, one of the greats from Dr. Don Egolf or the US National Arboretum.

Viburnum dilatatum Cardinal Candy ('Henneke')

Cardinal Candy Linden Viburnum. 6', zone 4, Lots of ivory-white flowers in May followed by dense clusters of bright red fruit in early fall, more reliably winter hardy than many seedling V. dilatatums, does not seem to need a pollinator as much as the others.

Summer Snowflake Doublefile Viburnum. 4', zone 6, DR, SH, Compact habit, white lacecap flowers, blooms all summer, red fruit in fall, deciduous, introduced from British Columbia.

Cree Leatherleaf Viburnum. 8', zone 5, DR, SH, White flowers, compact habit, evergreen, another great plant from the US National Arboretum.
